Quartz is rated a 7-7.5 on the Mohs Hardness Scale. It is an overall durable gemstone. Steel wire is sturdy, but should never be in water. Exposure to water can cause rust and corrosion. Wearing any jewelry in water can lead to deteriorition. To make your jewelry last as long as possible, take off in activities involving water, store in a cool, dry place, avoid lotion or perfume, and take off before exercise.
